Chapter 9
Dusk grabbed Lolly’s ankle and tried to pull him under the water in the hot tub. Something the wall sign specifically advised against, but it wasn’t like Lolly could drown in knee-deep water. And if by any chance he drank too much of it, Dusk would be there to apply some mouth-to-mouth action.
They’d only be staying in this hotel for two nights, but the place had a pool and a sauna. Dusk was paying for it, so he was adamant about using it all. It felt amazing to be able to afford a place like this after months and months of sleeping on the bus, or staying in dingy motels, even if it was meant as a one-off reward. Their gigs were finally bringing decent money. Not Beyoncé gig-level money, but enough for them to actually make some savings after each night.
This one time, they’d decided to splash out and instead of cramming five people into one room, they invested into getting three—one for Sid, one for Dusk and Lolly, and one for Dawn and Mage, since they didn’t mind sharing. While things weren’t amazing yet, the additional interest and cash made Dusk feel like he was stepping up in the world. He might not need God-knew-what, but he liked being able to treat Lolly to a nicer bed, a hot tub, or even a slightly fancier meal at a restaurant instead of the usual fare at a diner.
The pool area in the hotel wasn’t all gold and marble, but it was there for them to use. Pale blue tiles were calming, and with no one else around, Dusk relaxed, making himself believe that it was somehow their private spa at his future home in Calabasas.
Lolly gently kicked him under the water and grinned, rubbing his foot against Dusk’s outer thigh. “Stop sabotaging me. You’re such a menace!”
“I’m just having fun.” Dusk grinned at him and pulled closer after a quick check that there was no one else around.
This time, the pink head disappeared in the bubbling water, and Lolly’s foot trailed up Dusk’s hip, only to rest on his stomach with the heel pressing against flesh right above his dick.
Dusk smiled so widely his face felt as if it was about to split. “You think that just because I treated you to lobster, you’re too classy for hot tub wrestling?”
They’d had lobster at a Chinese buffet, but it was the real deal. Lolly remained underwater, and the leg that had been pushing at Dusk went somewhat limp. Lolly’s knee shifted, starting to float on the surface, but there was no movement. In the rumbling water, Dusk could hardly see much beyond the shade of Lolly’s body and the sheen of his hair, which in the dusky room looked a little bit like blood spreading under the stormy surface.
“Lolly?” He pulled on the slim ankle with a frown. When nothing happened, he repeated the name and reached down to grab Lolly’s shoulder. He pulled him up, already sick to his stomach of the stupid game.
